Grapevine Varieties Chart
One of the things that makes wine so interesting above other forms of drinks is the complex nature, diversity and styles in existence today. This is due to so many different types of grapevine varieties. The way to make a wine from grapes maybe similar but with the use of a different variety of grape you will get a different style of wine. There will always be a wine that will suit any ones desire as there are thousands of different varieties to pick from. Then as most wine makers blend their wines no one wine will more than likely ever be the same. This also goes for the same wine maker or vineyard from year to year as each harvest brings a new taste or complexity to the table as mother nature dictates.
Most bottled wines get there respective name from the grape that is used but this is not always the case as if the wine maker uses a heavy blend the name may not depict the grape that was used. The same goes for Country wines or Fruit wines, blending of different types of fruits is a common practice so one may bring out the flavor desired. Example though a Mulberry wine is tasty by itself if mixed with a say apple wine the bitterness of the Mulberry is gone but still allows the fruit to be noticed by the taste buds if mixed in moderate proportions.
During the many years wine has been made there are set values one could use to blend wines if you can find them or get them out of your local wine maker as these are usually well guarded secrets but your taste is not my taste nor is mine yours. So do not be afraid to start blending your wines, do it in small increments like 1Qt total. Mix it by cup full or 1/2 cups or what ever the measurement. Make sure to try different amounts of the juices being used, I will bet you your favorite wine will get better once you find your blend.
